The members of Eastern Carolina Plastic Modelers and local artisans will display their creations and talk to the public about the model hobby. During the day, discussions will be held on research and hobby tips for the general public. Fort Fisher’s history will come alive throughout the day with firings of the site’s 12-pound bronze Napoleon full scale reproduction cannon. Rounding out the day’s activities will be costumed tours of the remaining earthworks at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. 910-458-5538. June 9, July 14, Aug. 11 Battleship 101 Ship volunteers stationed throughout the ship engage visitors in specific subjects and areas including: gunnery, radar, sickbay, galley, engineering, and daily shipboard life. Civil War medical re-enactors will set up displays of medical instruments and talk with visitors about the medical care during the Civil War for soldiers, sailors and civilians. We have scheduled authors and medical historians to discuss the Yellow Fever outbreak that devastated Wilmington in the fall of 1862. We will have an author who will discuss the story of Rose O’Neal Greenhow as a spy for the Confederacy. Throughout the day, there will be many hands-on activities such as learning the signal flag alphabet, creating and using cipher disks.
