And no matter where you tee off, you’re sure to be surrounded by extraordinary views.

Despite its long history of pioneers, Cherokees and botanists, Grandfather Mountain is inextricably linked the most with its previous owner, Hugh Morton. The day after he inherited the land from his grandfather in 1952, Morton turned the mountain into a tourist destination and natural conservation area where visitors from the budding resort community could come for spectacular views and unspoiled nature. He built the infamous swinging bridge and worked to preserve 4,000 acres of the mountain's wilderness back country.
It's the highest peak in the Blue Ridge and a nature preserve of global importance. Take a heart-pounding walk across the famous Mile High Swinging Bridge, photograph bears, otters, and other wildlife in natural habitats, and hike some of the South's best trails.
