There’s always something to do on the Outer Banks, no matter what the time of day or weather. When the day is winding down and it’s time to leave the beach, the evening activities are just getting started. From outdoor concerts to aquariums, shopping boutiques to bicycle rides, there is something for everyone to enjoy when the sun starts to set. It’s happy hour for the whole family!

Catch an early dinner at one of hundreds of choice coastal restaurants, each with its own distinctive take on how to serve fresh local ingredients, from upscale gourmet to family-style classic dishes. After a delicious meal, stop by a local mom and pop ice cream shop for a delicious dessert. Sit on the deck and watch the sun begin to sink low in the sky as you wash down the ice cream with ice cold lemonade.

If you feel like making some memories, scout out a local mini-golf and play a game or two through pirate ships and waterfalls. Go-karts abound for the adrenaline junkies, and family-friendly evening outdoor concerts are a fun way to spend the early hours. For nostalgia’s sake, rent a few beach cruisers and stroll with your family through the quaint streets of the Outer Banks.

A few frames of bowling is another family-friendly option if you’re looking for some fun
indoors. Grab some pizza for the kids, some beer for the adults and gear up for strikes, spares and gutter balls! Make sure you stay for the late night laser bowling which makes the game totally cosmic! If bowling isn’t your thing but you like the thought of playing with lasers, then laser tagging is another fun option that the Outer Banks has to offer. Get your sharpshooter skills ready for hours of ducking, dodging and tagging.

The more adventurous vacationer can embark on a sunset cruise. Several boat operators offer incredibly scenic trips on the sound in the early evenings, typically encouraging passengers to bring their own food and beverages. These short voyages provide some of the most memorable experiences an Outer Banks vacation can offer.

If you left the kids at home or your children are a bit older, there are still plenty of fun things to do on the Outer Banks.  Enjoy a wine tasting at one of the many wineries. For night owls young and old, a nice variety of local restaurants transform into mini-nightclubs. From comedy clubs to tiki bars to outdoor shows, there are plenty of places for late-night partying too!

Don’t think you have to stop having fun just because the sun is setting. Round up the gang and venture out to explore the many evening entertainment activities that are available. With so many options, you’ll hardly be able to wait until the sun sets and the day nears its end.
