Fireworks All Summer Long - Fireworks are displayed at the oceanfront Wednesday and Sunday evenings at 10 p.m. from July through the middle of September. 26-27- The 29th Annual Pungo Strawberry Festival. The Annual Pungo Strawberry Festival is held Memorial Day weekend. All the strawberries you can eat and are prepared more than 50 different ways. 24-25- FunkFest. A new spin on an existing festival, FunkFest celebrates the music of influential legends. Funk is an American musical style that originated in the mid-to-late-1960’s when African-American musicians blended soul music, soulful jazz, and R&B into a rhythmic, danceable new form of music. Funk brings a strong rhythmic groove of electric bass and drums to the foreground. Funk music was a major influence on the development of 1970’s disco music, and has even impacted house music and hip-hop. 31- Sept. 2 - Verizon Wireless American Music Festival. Virginia Beach oceanfront. The largest outdoor music festival on the East Coast features 30 concerts exploding across ten stages. Tickets are required for certain concerts on the main stage. www.beachstreetusa.com.

2- Labor Day Weekend- Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon. Participants are treated to 14 stages along the 13.1-mile course, with performances from 20 local bands. A headline act will thrill the crowd at the post-race concert on the sand at the 5th Street Beach Stage.

The NAS Oceana Air Show Beach Blast at the
31st Street Neptune Park (next to the Hilton Virginia Beach Oceanfront). Includes a free concert. Made up of some of the Navy’s best musicians, performances are diverse, high energy and entertaining. A Super Hornet afterburner flyover kicks-off the show, and is immediately followed by team parachute jumps onto the beach. This is a free event. Parking is available in the 31st Street Parking Garage.
